Announcing Sophie version 2.5 – Role-Based Access Control, New User Interface, and Retention Management

As an avid prank enthusiast, I was eager for the opportunity to write an April fools' blog post full of fake features to accompany our latest release, alas Sophie version 2.5 is just too awesome and totally stole the thunder. (I guess AI for log analysis will have to wait for next year…).

Our newest version is all about visibility and giving more control to our users, so with no further ado allow me to introduce Sophie 2.5!

Role-Based Access Control

A core part of the new release, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) has been incorporated into our platform, giving our users, now more than ever, control over their data.

What is RBAC?
Role-based Access Control is a method of regulating access to a computer or network resources based on the roles of individual users within an enterprise.

In this context, access is the ability of an individual user to perform a specific task, such as view, create, or change specific data. It can be used in complex IT environments either for convenience (one user’s alert noise is another user’s salvation) or for data governance and compliance (especially useful with GDPR looming – pun intended).

How does it work?

Users can now link data inputs to specific groups, limiting data access only for that group members.
Sophie’s groups offer the exact amount of granularity needed for effective data governance, making it possible to set permissions for each monitor source easily, directly from the 'manage users’' menu.

For more information on how RBAC works and how to set it up, make sure to check our support knowledge base.

Do these Extra features and options sound daunting and unfriendly? Then it’s a good thing we are also introducing our latest greatest user interface!

New User Interface

You ask, we deliver!

Apart from looking great, our new UI is clearer than ever, offering a better experience, and empowers users to have a better understanding of their environments.

Although it’s super intuitive and friendly, let me show you around some of our changes anyway:

Insights and Recommendations – in order to provide a more streamlined experience for our users, insights and recommendations for alerts are hidden until called upon by pressing the “Insight” button.

Ø User Feedback Buttons – feedback buttons (“Copy”, “Raise”, “Mute Alert”, etc.) have been moved from the incident to its alerts, giving our users more control.

Ø Alert Archiving – Incidents’ “Done” button has been replaced with the “Archive” button, providing our users more control over resolved incident.

Retention Management

Last, but not least, you’ve guessed it – even more visibility and control over your data!

We’ve been enabling our users to enforce their retention policy on the data they save in Sophie from the beginning, but, let's admit it…. it wasn’t user-friendly and lacked proper visibility.

That’s why (drum rolls!) we’ve added the option to control Sophie’s retention settings directly from our platform while getting visibility into the different components and their size.

That’s all for now, stay tuned for our next big release!

Loom Systems delivers an AIOps-powered log analytics solution, Sophie, to predict and prevent problems in the digital business. Loom collects logs and metrics from the entire IT stack, continually monitors them, and gives a heads-up when something is likely to deviate from the norm. When it does, Loom sends out an alert and recommended resolution so DevOps and IT managers can proactively attend to the issue before anything goes down.
